Rebecca Daly’s ‘The Other Side of Sleep’ and John McIlduff’s ‘Behold the Lamb’ join other Irish films ‘Albert Nobbs’, ‘The Moth Diaries’ and ‘Death of a Superhero’ in the Toronto International Film Festival.
Rebecca Daly’s feature debut ‘The Other Side of Sleep’ will have its North American premiere in the Discovery section of Toronto’s programme. The Discovery programming strand is a spotlight on the “most exciting work from up-and-coming directors from around the world.” Northern Irish feature ‘Behold the Lamb’ was also chosen to be part of the Discovery Programme in the festival.
Rebecca Daly’s thriller stars IFTA nominee Antonia Campbell Hughes (Bright Star) and Sam Keeley. It tells the story of Arlene, a sleepwalker in a rural Irish town. Arlene wakes in the woods beside the body of a young woman, and finds herself drawn to the victim’s grieving family. Arlene begins to barricade herself in at night, not allowing herself to sleep. But as her emotional turmoil grows, reality and sleeping begin to blur. The Other Side of Sleep’ was produced by Morgan Bushe (Colony) and MacDara Kelleher (The Runway) of Fastnet Films and filmed on location in Offaly last year. It is written by Rebecca Daly and Glenn Montgomery (Joyriders).
Produced by Kevin Jackson and written and directed by John McIlduff, ‘Behold the Lamb’ is a dark comedy that follows an unusual duo of middle-aged loser Eddie and young, pregnant junkie Liz, as they travel across Northern Ireland to pick up a lamb. It was produced through Northern Ireland Screen’s Ultra Low Budget Feature Film Scheme in association with FILM4.
The 36th Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 8th-18th 2011.
