Industry reports suggest that Irish director Brian Kirk is in talks to direct rodeo romance ‘Paper Wings’.
Kirk will reportedly take the reigns on Overbrook Entertainment and Temple Hill’s Entertainment’s feature, following the completion of his studio directorial debut ‘Thor 2’, which he is currently in negotiations to direct.
Written by Les Bohem (Dante’s Peak), ‘Paper Wings’ tells the story of a rodeo champion who falls for an up-and-coming country singer.
While no cast are officially attached, Variety report that a rumoured Hollywood table read took place last summer with Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and that Tom Cruise will work with the Irish director to develop the script.
The IFTA nominated director’s credits include the 2006 feature ‘Middletown’ and episodes from hit television series ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘The Tudors’. Brian Kirk is currently working on BBC One Drama Series ‘Great Expectations’, which will be broadcast this Christmas, to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’ birth.
Producers for Temple Hill are Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, with Overbrook’s Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitx all reportedly key players in the project.
