As the anticipation builds ahead of the beginning of production on ‘Game of Thrones’ season two in Northern Ireland on July 25th, more cast members have been announced for season two. Oliver Ford Davies, Carice Van Houten and Stephan Dillane all set to join the HBO drama.
British actor Stephan Dillane will take on the role of Stannis Baratheon. Stannis is the late King Robert’s younger brother, the true successor that Eddard Stark tried to set on the throne instead of Prince Joffrey. The BAFTA winning actor has previously starred in TV mini-series ‘John Adams’ and can be seen in David McKenzie’s ‘Perfect Sense’ which will be released this October 7th by Arrow.
Another veteran of British stage and screen actor Oliver Ford Davies, who has played Sio Bibble in the recent Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, will take on the role of Maester Cressen of Dragonstone. In the world of Martin’s novels, masters are an order of healers, scholars and scientists trained at a school in Oldtown called the Citadel. Cressen is a loyal adviser to Stannis Baratheon.
Dutch stage and film actress Carice Van Houten (Valkyrie, Repo Men), who last filmed in Ireland starring in the 2007 feature ‘Dorothy Mills’ has also been cast for the role of Melisandre. Melisandre is a mysterious priestess and sorceress from the distant lands of Asshai who aids Stannis in his push for the throne.
