Dutch producer San Fu Maltha (Black Book) has spoken to IFTN about the experience of shooting his latest project ‘Milo’ in Ireland. The BAFTA nominated producer praised Ireland as a filming location and indicated a possible return saying “Ireland is a beautiful country, with nice and friendly people. It was certainly something I would do again. I believe there is a good future for Dutch-Irish co productions.”
’Milo’ is directed by brothers Berend and Roel Boorsma and shot in Dublin and Wicklow for a five week period in May and June of this year. Producer San Fu Maltha went on to say “It was a fantastic experience to work in Ireland. We had such a dedicated and experienced crew and cast, and we were very lucky with the weather. I believe it never rained when we were shooting exteriors.”
The co-production between Samson Films and Fu Works centres on the story of Milo, a 10-year old boy who grows up in social isolation, because of his ‘sensitive skin’. After running away from home to attend a school camping trip, Milo ends up in the hands of an ageing criminal couple, with whom he enjoys a freedom he has never before been granted, until he learns the truth about his skin condition. The coming-of-age film stars Stuart Graham (Hunger), Jer O'Leary (Savage), Laura Vasiliu (4 Months, 3 weeks, 2 days), Charlotte Bradley (About Adam); Dolf de Vries (Black Book) and newcomer, Lorcan Bonner in the title role.
David Collins (The Moth Diaries) and Martina Niland (Once) produced for Irish production company Samson Films. The script was written by Berend and Roel Boorsma together with Heather Imani. Details of the film’s post-production are TBC, but it will take place in Holland and Belgium. Benelux Film Distributors will release ‘Milo’ in Dutch Cinemas in February 2012. Irish distributor and sales agent for the film are TBC.
