Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) has been reportedly cast in Brendan Gleeson’s period drama ‘At Swim Two Birds’. Gleeson is set to both direct and star in the film which is an adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s 1939 novel of the same name.
Fassbender is the latest in a long list of top Irish acting talents who have already been attached to the project including Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Cillian Murphy (The Wind That Shakes the Barley), Colin Farrell (Phonebooth), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) and Gleeson’s son Domhnall Gleeson (Sensation).
Irish producers and representatives for Michael Fassbender declined to comment on the actor’s involvement in the film today, which is in the financing stages. Producers say full cast details will not be wholly confirmed until later this year.
This news follows hot on the heels of the Luxembourg Ireland Co-production Treaty (view report here), under which ‘At Swim Two Birds’ will be financed. The feature will be produced by Parallel Film’s Alan Moloney (Neverland) and Luxembourg based producer Jani Thiltes with funding support offered by both the Irish Film Board and Film Fund Luxembourg.
