Irish director John Carney (Once, Zonad) is behind a new musical with Scarlett Johannson (Lost in Translation) attached to lead role. ‘Can a Song Save Your Life?’ is a music-oriented film which reportedly follows an unsuccessful A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter (Johansson).
Judd Apatow is to produce ‘Can a Song Save Your Life?’ which has a reported budget of $10m. Filming is expected to begin in New York next year. Carney recently told The Sunday Business post online ‘‘I’ve been writing it for a year and a half. I went out to Los Angeles to meet Scarlett a couple of months ago. She was everything you could imagine – very hot, elegant and she’s really smart."
Former bassist with The Frames, John Carney is famed for the Oscar-winning ‘Once’ which he directed as well as Irish TV Drama ‘Bachelors Walk’. ‘Once’ is currently being adapted as a musical for an off-Broadway show in November. His latest film, currently in post-production is ‘The Rafters’, a ghostly thriller about American Backpackers on the Aran island who vie for the attention of a young woman who is, literally, haunted by her past.
