On June 11th, The Irish Film Institute will hold an open day of free screenings which will include previews of new releases, screenings of classic cinema and films which reflect the IFI's themed programming strands.

Previews to be screened on the day include Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut 'Jack Goes Boating' which follows the lives of two working class couples in New York, Spanish action flick 'Cell 211' and Irish dark comedy 'Sensation', directed by Tom Hall ('Bachelors Walk', 'Zonad') and starring Domhnall Gleeson ('True Grit', 'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows').

Film classics such 'Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf', 'Donnie Darko' and F.W. Murnau's silent classic 'Sunrise' are also on the line-up for the IFI open day which IFI Director Sarah Glennie said is "our way of saying thanks to everyone who supports us." Families will be catered for with the screening of children's classic 'Labrynth' starring David Bowie, which tells the story of a young girl trying to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King.

Sarah Glennie described the IFI audiences as "loyal and engaged" and went on to say: "I hope that lots of people will use this opportunity to come and discover the IFI, some maybe for the first time, but also to find out more about all the different aspects of what we do and to experience the breadth of programming that we have on offer year-round."

The IFI will also allow the audience to choose what film will be screened on the open day as the Audience Choice film. Audiences will choose from 12 films that have been released at the IFI over the past year. Voting for the Audience Choice screening can be done online at CLICK HERE. Other events on the day include the chance to talk to the programmers at the IFI and discuss the IFI programming strands at an informal event titled 'Meet the Programmers'.

Tickets for all films to be screened on the open day will become available at 11am on the 11th June at the IFI only and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Tickets will not be available online or by phone and are restricted to a maximum of four per person.
