Midas Productions’ new historical walking series, ‘Coiscéimeanna’ will start its TG4 broadcast this Sunday, May 1st at 8.15pm. Presented by journalist, Harry McGee, the series shot around Ireland last summer and sees him travelling across the four provinces, following in the footprints of some of the great stories of Irish history.
Written and directed by Bláithín Ní Chatháin and produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi (Ceart agus Coir) on behalf of Midas Productions, this six-part series features six walks in counties Mayo, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Cork and Kerry. During these walks, presenter, Harry McGee will look to trace our ancestors’ dangerous journeys over the years.
As such, the walks will include; the Doolough Famine Walk in the Mayo- Connemara mountains, the march of the Year of the French from Killala through the Windy Gap in Mayo, the journey up to one million people took to hear Daniel O’Connell speak at his last Monster Meeting in Kildare and a walk in the footsteps of the Monks of Donegal in the Bluestack Mountains. McGee will make use of both old and new maps, books from the past and his GPS to retrace each journey, he also meets with locals, historians and folklorists who guide him along his way.
