New Feature, ‘The Shadows’ to Shoot in August
28 Apr 2011 :
Emu Productions are currently in pre-production with ‘The Shadows’, a new feature set to shoot in Dublin and Meath in August. The modern fairytale will star Michael Parle (Our Wonderful Home), Emma Eliza Regan (The Fading Light) and Natalia Kostrzewa (The Looking Glass).

Writer and Director Colin Downey describes the premise of the film for IFTN, saying ”The Shadows’ is a fantasy drama inspired by George MacDonald's fairytale of the same name. It tells the story of a nine year old boy, Matthew, who finds a key to a magical world at the bottom of his grandmother's garden.” Following his encounter with The Shadows, the film focuses on Matthew’s relationship with them in the style of a contemporary fairytale.

The feature is being produced by Emu Productions’ Eimear O’Kane (Pentecost). O’Kane describes the shoot schedule for IFTN, explaining that: “We are hoping to begin shooting around Dublin and Meath in middle or late August for around three weeks At the moment, not everything is finalized but we are excited about the project.” Confirmed cast members for the project include Michael Parle, Emma Eliza Regan and Natalia Kostrzewa whilst the film’s lead role, that of Matthew, will be filled by Lorcan Melia (Camelot).

Budget information for ‘The Shadows’ has not been confirmed but the project was awarded funding of €100,000 from the Irish Film Board in the body’s latest round of funding. The film’s post house is also TBC and it is hoped that the feature will be completed in late 2012.
