Feature documentary, ‘Munster Rugby: A Limerick Love Affair’ from first time director Ronan Cassidy will broadcast on Sunday, May 1st. The documentary profiles the Limerick rugby community and its relationship with the Munster team and features interviews with Liam Toland, Paul Warwick and Padraic O'Brien and many others.
The documentary aims to give a revealing insight into the rich traditions surrounding Limerick rugby; the influence of family traditions, the club system, the intense desire to succeed and the remarkable passion for rugby. The story is interwoven with contributions from noted players from the past and present including Liam Toland, Paul Warwick Padraic O'Brien, Anthony Foley, Mike Prendergast, Jerry Flannery, Paul Neville, Paul O'Connell, Eoin Reddan and Brian O'Brien.
Produced by Lorcan Dunne and Ronan Cassidy who also directs, the documentary shot between late 2009 and February 2011. The director of photography is Dominik Kosicki (Strongman Champions League: Ireland) and the project was edited by Lorcan Dunne. The feature’s soundtrack was composed by IFTA nominee, Patrick Cassidy (The Front Line, Hannibal).
The feature doc has been a work of passion for emerging filmmakers Ronan Cassidy and Lorcan Dunne, who studied together in Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Director and producer, Ronan Cassidy tells us why he got involved with the project: ”When you’re trying to get in to production in Ireland it’s hard to get anywhere without an example of your work. Of course it’s a bit of a catch 22 because if you can’t get experience than you don’t have work to use as a portfolio. I also really wanted to explore this subject, I think it’s a really interesting relationship to look at.”
