The 11th National Student Media Awards were held in Dublin’s Mansion House on Wednesday, April, 6th and saw 32 category award winners on the night. The event, hosted by Kathryn Thomas and Dáithí O Sé saw awards bestowed to students from around the country including Cathy Brady and Tommy Fitzpatrick whose IFTA winning short film, ‘Small Change’ won in the categories of both Film Script of the Year and Short Film of the Year.
‘Small Chage’, written and directed by Cathy Brady and produced by Tommy Fitzpatrick from IADT, walked away on the night with Film Script of the Year award as well as the IFB sponsored Short Film of the Year prize. The short’s other crew members present to accept the awards at the gala awards ceremony included Luca Rochinni Conor Fitzpatrick,Kelly McGuill and Pete Walker. ‘Small Change’ stars Nora Jane Noone and examines the life of a single mother with a slot machine addiction.
In the area of animation, BCFE’s Alex Sherwood scooped the prize of Animation of the Year with his project, ‘The Apple Tree’, a humorous look at love that blossoms under an apple tree. The prize of factual and dramatic TV programming in Irish (Leiriuchain Teilifise i nGaeilge – Faisnéis & Drámaíocht) award, sponsored by TG4 and Udaras was won by NUIG’s Eoin Kelly Smith with his work, ‘Laoch Lán-Aimsire’ whilst the award for TV Production in the English language, sponsored by 3e/FYI was Mathias Odden from GCD with his project,
’The Irish Pub Industry’.
