The ‘Ros na Rún’ episode featuring Stephen Fry is to broadcast tonight at 8:30pm on TG4. The ‘Q.I Presenter’ and award winning actor (Wilde) filmed his cameo appearance in the soap last December as part of a new BBC TV series on minority languages called ‘Planet Word’ and was invited to appear in ‘Ros na Rún’ during a visit to Connemara where he was exploring the origins of the Irish language.
Fry will appear in the series as a tourist asking for directions in Tigh Thaidhg. In the scene he interacts as Gaeilge with two of the soap’s most enduring characters, Tadhg Ó Diréain, played by Macdara Ó Fatharta and Séamus Ó Catháin, played by Diarmuid Mac An Adhaistair.
Now in its 15th year, the IFTA nominated ‘Ros na Rún’ is shot on a purpose built set in Spiddal with additional filming taking place in the local area. The series producer is Hugh Farley and each week, from August to February, three episodes of the show are recorded across two studios with all scriptwriting, production and editing taking place on set. The show is co-produced by Eo Teilifis and Tyrone Productions, who are commissioned by TG4 to produce the stations flagship drama programme.
Irish Stephen Fry fans can catch him in ‘Ros na Rún’ tonight at 8:30pm on TG4. Stephen Fry leaving outside of Ireland can catch his appearance in the soap on TG4's site at http://www.tg4.ie/clar/rnr/rnr.asp
