Graham Cantwell
Pre-production is currently underway on upcoming Irish feature film, ‘Seven Songs for Amy’. Graham Cantwell (Anton) recently signed on to co-produce the film with Fiona Graham of Sonny and Skye productions and the romantic comedy will shoot in July along Ireland’s west coast.

Written by Fiona Graham, the film will be directed by Konrad Begg (Crimes that Shook the World). The producers are currently in pre-production with the film, scouting locations and are currently casting. ‘Seven Songs for Amy’ is a sharp romantic comedy with a love story that spans from Ireland to America. Set in contemporary rural Ireland, it centres around an underground musician called Sean O’Malley who loses the love of his life and tries to win her back.

BAFTA nominee, Patrick Bergin (Screen Two, Sleeping with the Enemy) will have what producer Fiona calls a “small but vital role”in the film and will also be contributing his musical talents to the film’s soundtrack. The film will also contain original songs by Jim McKee and Ultan Conlon along with music from emerging musicians.

Once the film’s cast has been finalised, rehearsals are set to take place from June 14th with the film’s shoot set to take place from July 4th for five weeks. Locations for the shoot are not yet finalised but Fiona and Konrad plan to film in Galway City, Kinvara and Clifden. It is also hoped that Duncan Telford (Extraordinary Rendition) will come on board as the film’s director of photography. Further crew members are TBC. Director Konrad believes the west coast offers the perfect setting for Seven Songs for Amy, telling IFTN: “The west coast of Ireland has always inspired me and it is a special place. I'm incredibly excited about shooting here. This story has a lot of resonance with me and I look forward to bringing it to the screen.”

As mentioned above the film is being produced by Fiona Graham and Graham Cantwell. Graham has commented on his happiness at being involved with the project, saying “This is a tremendous project that helps boost Ireland’s flair for producing original independent films. I am looking forward to bringing this exciting film to the international market.” The film is from Sonny & Skye productions, co-founded by Fiona Graham and her sister Mairi McLellan. It is a low budget feature with a budget of under €1 million and is being privately funded.
