‘Albert Nobbs’ will see Glenn Close and Janet McTeer (Into the Storm) joined by a host of Irish and International talent in the form of Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm), Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (The Tudors). The feature has already sold to 13 territories around the world.
The project is scheduled to shoot in and around Dublin on Monday, December 13th until January 28th 2011 and will be directed by Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives). Written by Glenn Close and John Banville (The Sea), the film will centre around Glenn Close’s title character – a woman in 19th century Ireland who disguises herself as a man in order to survive and work. This deception however leads to an unusual love triangle.
Close is also producing the film, alongside Bonnie Curtis (Saving Private Ryan), Julie Lynn (The Jane Austen Book Club) and Alan Moloney (Triage). ‘Albert Nobbs’ has a budget of €6 million and has received IFB support of €750,000.
London-based International sales agency, WestEnd Films has confirmed that the feature has already sold to 13 territories around the world including Wild Bunch in Benelux, Chrysalis in France, Multimedia in Portugal, Seven in Greece, Monopole in Switzerland, AQS and VTI in Eastern Europe, Film Depot in Russia, Shapira in Israel, Front Row in the Middle East, R Film in Turkey, PictureWorks in India, SSG in Taiwan and Nu Metro in South Africa.
