Neil Delamere Explores his Viking Roots

Mind the Gap Films are currently in pre-production with a BAI and RTÉ funded series, 'The Only Viking in the Village' which will see comedian, Neil Delamere (The Panel, Republic of Telly) explore his Viking roots. The as yet untitled series is expected to shoot next Summer and will be produced by Mind the Gap’s Anne Heffernan (Ireland - Dig It!) and executive produced by Bernadine Carraher (Hands On).

'The Only Viking In The Village' will see comedian, Neil Delamere, go in search of his Viking ancestry in two programmes that will look to provide an entertaining account of our Viking heritage from the first invasions to the present day. Neil will physically and mentally get to grips with his Viking ancestry: he will live like a Viking, exploring everything from Viking cooking methods, travel, weaponry, combat, clothing, customs, art, traditions and superstitions in a hands on and visual way, making this a unique and unforgettable exploration of our Viking heritage.

The programme will shoot on location in Ireland and Denmark next year. Further production details will be announced on IFTN in the coming weeks.

Mind the Gap Films is currently in production with the 15th series of ‘Hands On’. Re-commissioned by RTÉ with a budget of €200,000, ‘Hands On’ is produced by Anne Heffernan and directed by Ramon Wolfe (Something Stupid, Wicked), with Bernadine Carraher on board as series producer. The 10 x 25 minute programmes will examine various issues affecting the deaf and hard of hearing community.

Finally, the group will see the DVD and CD launch of their summer programme 'Hallelujah Broadway' on November 12th. The special shot in Prague this February and aimed to bring the religious experience of musical theatre to television audiences. Picked up by America’s PBS the show broadcast on RTÉ during Easter and it is hoped it will show again during the Christmas period. Produced by Bill Hughes (Irish Tenors and Friends) and Bernadine Carraher, the collection of musical theatre hits were performed by Irish tenor, Anthony Kearns, tenor Rodrick Dixon, and Chicago Symphony soprano, Alfreda Burke all of whom were accompanied by the 22-piece Prague Filmharmonic Orchestra and Choir.
