The second series of Midas Productions’ docudrama series, ‘Idir Mná’ starts on Tuesday, October 5th on TG4. The second installment of the factually based drama further investigates stories and in-depth case analysis from the world of murder and crime and how they impact upon the lives of women in Ireland.
Directed by Sonia Nic Giolla Easbuig and produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi, the six x 25 minute series returns to examine the lives and crimes of Ireland's female offenders and victims. Among those are; Cork’s Norma Cotter who killed her husband with a shotgun she gave him for Christmas, Susan Christie who stabbed her lover’s wife to death in a forest in Co. Down almost two decades ago and Mary Agnes Daly who, in 1948, attacked and killed an elderly woman with a hammer at a church in Glasnevin, Dublin.
Also featured in the series is a detailed examination of the high-profile stalking case that came before the Irish courts in 2009 in which Séamus Quirke was found guilty of harassing his former girlfriend, Gráinne Barry in Cork over a four-year period. The second series will introduce audiences to several new Irish actresses including Orla Gildea who plays Norma Cotter, Dorcas Réamonn who plays Mary Agnes Daly, Maria Fitzpatrick who plays Susan Christie, Kathryn O’Hart who plays Sile and Anne Laerke Byrne who plays Hannah Flynn.
Each panel of experts and commentators in the series include, Patricia Casey; Women's Aid Director, Margaret Martin; Clinical Professor in Public Health Medicine, Dr Joe Barry and forensic psychiatrist, Dr Paul O’Connell amongst others. This group carefully examines the broader societal issues raised in each story such as binge drinking, financial pressures, stalking, bullying, unrequited love and gambling.
The director of photography for the series was Russell Gleeson (The Portrait, Oxygen). ‘Idir Mná’ will air on TG4 for six weeks starting on Tuesday from October 5th at 10pm.
