Sean Lawlor Artists Trust Gala Evening Launches
14 Sep 2010 :
Sean Lawlor
In honour of the late Irish actor, Sean Lawlor an artists trust will be launched on Sunday, October 10th with a gala evening event. The Sean Lawlor Artists Trust was established to support Irish based professional artists diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Sean passed away on October 10th 2009 after a short battle with cancer.

The function of the Trust will be to raise money for artists who are sick and in need of care and attention. The trust’s board is made up of seven members: Irish Equity president, Pádraig Murray; ‘The Escapist’ actor, Dave Duffy; ‘Glenroe’ actor, Paul Bennet; Sean’s brother, Eric Lawlor; ‘Kings’ writer Jimmy Murphy; ‘The General’ actor, Frank Melia and ‘The Abduction Club’ actress, Liz Lloyd. From October onwards the board will be reviewing cases for funding.

Actor and playwright, Sean was best known for his portrayal of Malcolm Wallace in Mel Gibson's Oscar-winning epic, ‘Braveheart’. He also appeared in James Cameron's ‘Titanic’ and Jim Sheridan's ‘In the Name of the Father’ along with many other significant Film, TV & Theatre roles.

Following his cancer diagnosis, Sean made a speech at a golf club to raise money for his treatment, which is available to view on You Tube. The Sean Lawlor Foundation was inspired by Sean and the speech he made.

The Sean Lawlor Artists Trust will be launched at the gala evening on 10th of October. The event will kick off with the Irish premiere of Sean’s last film ‘Now Here’ and it will be attended by actors Patrick Bergin (Patriot Games, Sleeping with the Enemy) and Declan Joyce (Six: The Mark Unleashed, A Kiss for Jed Wood). There will be a short break followed by a concert, which will include acts such as Finbar Furey, The Transformation Blues Band and The Beer Mats. The Gala Evening will see many of Ireland’s recognised performing artists in attendance supporting this wonderful cause as a tribute to Sean who was a great friend and colleague to many.

In addition to Sean’s performing talents he was also a very accomplished painter. His paintings can be viewed and purchased on an online gallery www.seanlawlor.imagekind.com. All monies raised from sales will be donated to The Sean Lawlor Artists Trust.

The Sean Lawlor Artists’ Trust Gala Evening will take place in Dublin’s Liberty Hall on Sunday, October 10th from 7.00pm onwards. Tickets are priced at €35. For more booking information call 085 109 3422 or email Eric at eric.cablecommunications@gmail.com
