The upcoming third Los Angeles Irish Film Festival will take place from the 30th of September until October 3rd and will once again look to celebrate Irish film with screenings of features such as ‘Perrier’s Bounty’, ‘Swansong – The Story of Occi Byrne’, ‘The Yellow Bittern’ and ‘The Runway'.
The festival’s opening night screening of ‘Perrier’s Bounty’ will play host to a number of delegates from the US film industry along with many of the Irish industry members who are resident in LA. The comedy thriller form Ian Fitzgibbon (A Film With Me In It) stars Cillian Murphy (Inception) and Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm) and will be screened alongside a short programme of silent films played out with a live orchestra.
The other Irish films screening include Paul Fraser's feature directorial debut ‘My Brothers’; Conor McDermottroe’s ‘Swansong – The Story of Occi Byrne’; Alan Gilsenan’s ‘The Yellow Bittern’ and Vic Sarin’s ‘A Shine of Rainbows.’
The festival will also be hosting a tribute to the late Richard Harris on October 3rd which will include a look at the actor’s work in films such as ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ and ‘Gladiator’ and will culminate in a showing of Jim Sheridan’s ‘The Field’ where Richard starred as the film’s infamous Bull McCabe character.
The winner of the Finders Series, Ian Power's 'The Runway' will screen at the festival on October 1st. The film examines the true story of a small Cork town's reaction to a pilot who crashes his plane in to a Mitchelstoen field. The 3pm screening will be followed by a Q&A sesison between Jim Sheridan (In America) and Ian Power.
The LAIFF looks to celebrate the Irish passion for story telling and our deep-rooted love for the tellers of tales. The festival looks to present modern cinematic works as diverse as they are unique. The 3rd LA Irish Film Festival will take place 30th September - October 3rd.
