Crossing the Line Productions is currently in pre-production with ‘One Minute to Midnight’, a feature length documentary that will examine the Cuban Missile Crisis from the point of view of the Cuban and Soviet groups involved. The feature will shoot in Russia, the U.S. and Cuba in October.
The US version of the Cuban Missile Crisis and their role in the crisis is well documented, but the Soviet and Cuban sides of the story have remained relatively untold. 'One minute to Midnight' looks to reveal the inside story of the event, taking into consideration all sides of the international crisis. The feature will look to find out what really happened over 13 days in October 1962 when the fate of the world seemed to lie in the hands of just two men. As the Crisis approaches its 50thanniversary, and only a few survivors remain, Crossing the Line Films feel it is now more important than ever that the world hear the truth.
It is planned that ‘One Minute to Midnight’ will be shot as a 90 minute feature documentary with a 60 minute version also made for broadcast. The project is being directed by Kim Bartley (The Revolution will not be Televised) and John Murray (Across the Himalaya), who is also producing. The director of photography is Ross Bartley (director, Wild Journeys).
Interviews with Soviet, U.S. and Cuban survivors and witnesses, along with numerous declassified documents and audio tapes recently released from Soviet, US and Cuban archives, will provide revelations of the drama that unfolded.
‘One Minute to Midnight’ will, as previously mentioned, shoot in the U.S., Cuba and Russia as of October 2010 and will be edited in Dublin. The feature is expected to be released in May 2012 and broadcast in October 2012.
