Element Pictures Distribution has announced that ‘Zonad’ is to receive its Irish DVD release on Friday, 18th June. Written and directed by John Carney (Once) and Kieran Carney (Bachelors Walk) the film stars Simon Delaney (Happy Ever Afters), David Pearse (Fifty Dead Men Walking), Janice Byrne (Uncle Bill’s Barrel) and Rory Keenan (The Guard).
Zonad is from space…probably. Or so the Cassidy family assume when they discover him passed out on their living room carpet and why wouldn’t they? He has a red latex suit, a visor on his helmet and a cholesterol level that’s off the scale. Offering to put him up during his mission to earth, the Cassidy’s make Zonad feel very welcome – and in the case of mother Mary and teenage minx Jenny, they make him feel very welcome indeed…That is until fleet commander, Bonad arrives – all shiny and new in a blue satin jumpsuit – and then we’re locked into a collision path of earth shattering proportions.
The film was nominated for an IFTA for Best Feature and saw a win at the awards ceremony for Brian Byrne’s soundtrack. ‘Zonad’s director of photography is Peter Robertson (Garage, Inside I’m Dancing), production designer is Susie Cullen (whose art director credits include Intermission and Laws of Attraction), costumes are by Tiziana Corviseri (Bachelors Walk Christmas Special) and the film was edited at ScreenScene by Paul Mullen (Once, Bachelors Walk Christmas Special).
Special features on the DVD include Directors’ Commentary, Outtakes, Love Songs by Zonad and Deleted Scenes. ‘Zonad’ (cert. 15) will be available to buy nationwide on DVD (€14.99) by Element Pictures Distribution on Friday 18th June. It will also be available to rent exclusively from Xtravision from that date.
