The highlights of the 2010 Guth Gafa Festival have been announced. 30 international and Irish award-winning films will be screened at the event at which guests such as Sundance’s Patricia Finneran and Cork Film Festival director Mick Hannigan will be present.
The 5th annual Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival runs this year from the 11th - 13th June and takes place in Gortahork, Co. Donegal. The aim of the festival is to find noteworthy films and bring them, together with their filmmakers, to the rural surroundings of Gortahork.
Some of the award winning international films being screened at the Guth Gafa festival include Peter Kerekes’ ‘Cooking History’; Peter Liechti’s ‘The Sound of Insects – Record of a Mummy’; Rupert Isaacson’s ‘The Horse Boy’; Michael Madsen’s ‘Into Eternity’; Kaleo la Belle’s ‘Beyond this Place’; John Appel’s ‘The Player’ and ‘Steam of Life’ from Joonas Berghäll and Mika Hotakainen.
The Irish films being shown include IFTA wining documentary ‘His & Hers’, by Ken Wardrop, and Ross McDonnell and Carter Gunn’s ‘Colony’. More excellent Irish and international documentaries will complete in this year’s Guth Gafa programme and will be presented by their attending directors, and discussed in post-screening debates. These titles are TBC.
Alongside the screenings and discussions will be a special programme for film professionals and students with panels, seminars and Masterclasses. Some of the confirmed guests for these events include Patricia Finneran, senior consultant from the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Programme; Mick Hannigan, Cork Film Festival Director; Hana Kulhankova, Director of One World International Human Rights Documentary Festival in Prague; Communications and Marketing Manager of IFF Rotterdam, Dominique Henskens; Danish producer of the Oscar nominated film ‘Burma VJ’ Lise Lense-Møller (Magic Hour Films); acclaimed UK filmmaker Kim Longinotto; sales agent, Peter Jager from Autlook Film Sales, and many more who are TBC.
