Coco Television Sees Green for St. Patrick’s Day
09 Mar 2010 :
Celebrating its 15th year, the St. Patrick's Festival takes place this year from 12 - 17 March with over one million people expected to take part in festival events in celebration of all things Ireland. Coco television and RTÉ One will bring coverage of the festival’s annual Skyfest, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and highlights of the festival’s six days and nights.

The National Lottery Skyfest takes place on Saturday, 13th March 2010 at 7:30pm and this year’s fireworks will launch from the River Shannon in Limerick. Presented by Geri Maye (The Panel), the Skyfest will make use of Limerick’s King John's Castle as a stunning backdrop to the fireworks display which is choreographed to a soundtrack curated by 2FM’s Jenny Green. The live televised event is directed by Ian McGarry (Daniel O’Donnell: Shades of Green) and produced by Stuart Switzer (The Angelic Organ). The camera supervisor is Ray Brennan (Rip Off Republic) and the floor managers involved are Aoife Kennedy (Tubridy Tonight) and Kim Burrowes (Meteor Ireland Music Awards).

As to the main event, the St. Patrick's Festival Parade will also broadcast live on Wednesday, 17th March from 12:25pm. Coverage of the parade will be presented by Aidan Power (The Café), Des Cahill (Test the Nation) and Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh (The All Ireland Talent Show). The theme of this year’s parade is 'Extraordinary World' and it will feature newly commissioned street theatre troupes, artists, giant puppetry, dancers and marching bands from Ireland and across the globe. Thousands are expected to be cheering on the city streets and many millions more tuning in to watch on RTÉ One or online. The broadcast of the parade is directed by Simon Gibney (Fair City) and produced by Stuart Switzer. The camera supervisor is Robert Marshall (Keith Barry Live with Friends) and the event’s floor managers are Tom Flanagan (Saturday Night with Miriam), Ciaran McDonagh and Dara O’Broin (30 Things to do With You SSIA).

The St. Patrick's Festival Highlights will broadcast on Wednesday, March 17th at 11:10pm on RTÉ One. The retrospective programme will give a behind the scenes ‘right in the heart of the craic’ look at St. Patrick's Festival 2010 events including traditional and contemporary Irish music performances, comedy, visual arts, dance, a treasure hunt and GaelSpraoi Irish language events.
