Vignoles is New RTÉ Factual Asst. Commissioning Editor
16 Oct 2009 :
The new team at RTÉ Factual will welcome producer Julian Vignoles as an Assistant Commissioning Editor at the end of this month. Vignoles moves from his post as Assistant Commissioning Editor for Entertainment.

Julian will work across the range of Factual output and has also been tasked with developing and co-ordinating plans to mark RTÉ Television’s 50th Anniversary, ‘TV 50’, as part of the Factual team’s remit to develop Themes and Events for the schedule.

Steve Carson, Director of RTÉ Programmes, says: “Julian’s move to Factual strengthens a key genre for RTÉ Television, and completes a re-organisation that has seen the appointment of a new Commissioning Editor and the creation of a dedicated in-house Documentary Unit in the past few months.

His proven experience across a number of genres, both in programme-making and in commissioning, will help us build on the reputation that RTÉ Factual has earned in recent years. As an award-winning documentary maker himself, I know that Julian will bring a huge amount to the team.”

Julian has worked in RTÉ Radio and Television for over thirty years, winning awards both in radio and TV as a documentary producer, including three Jacobs awards, runner-up in the Prix Italia and an IFTA Award (O'Gorman's People, 1998).

Moving to RTÉ TV in 1995, Julian has worked in a wide range of genres, including Young Peoples and Factual. He was series producer of ‘Would You Believe’ from 1997 to 2002. Among other productions were ‘O’Gorman’s People’ and ‘Christy Moore Uncovered’.

In 2003 Julian became Assistant Commissioning Editor in Entertainment. While there, Julian has overseen a range of successful commissions, among them ‘Naked Camera, ‘You’re A Star’, ‘Anonymous’, ‘Celebrity Jigs and Reels’ and ‘Celebrity Bainisteoir’.

He was also this year re-elected as a member of the EBU Reference Group, which oversees the running of The Eurovision Song Contest. Julian will continue to co-ordinate RTÉ’s involvement with the Song Contest in his new role.
