The David Collins’ produced ‘Cairo Time’ has joined the strong Irish line up to be world premiered at the Toronto Film Festival next month. The Irish/Canadian co-production, which is directed by Ruba Nadda, will be screening in the Special Presentations category.
This brings the number of Irish films screening at the prestigious festival to eight with ‘Ondine’, ‘Perrier’s Bounty’, ‘Eamon’, ‘Cracks’, ‘A Shine of Rainbows’, ‘Triage’ and ‘Colony’ also included in the lineup.
‘Cairo Time’ sees Patricia Clarkson play Juliette, a magazine editor, vaguely dissatisfied with her job, she follows her Canadian diplomat husband, Mark (Tom McCamus), to Cairo. Unavoidably delayed in Gaza he sends his friend (Alexander Siddig), a retired Egyptian police officer, to pick her up and the brief love affair that follows catches them both completely off guard.
Written by Nadda herself, the film was shot by DOP Luc Montpellier (Away From Her, The Saddest Music In The World), Irish production designer Tamara Conboy (Once), costume designer Brenda Broer (Luck) and editor Teresa Hannigan (Sabah) also lent their skills to the production.
Niall Byrne, Irish composer, who has worked on numerous Irish productions including; ‘Single Handed’, ‘The Honeymooners’ and ‘On Home Ground’ composed the original score for the film.
Mongrel Media has distribution rights in Canada, whilst the International Sales Agent is E1 Entertainment.
