The BBC One show ‘Top Gear’ presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, and possibly The Stig, will be coming to Belfast to film their latest stunt – an Italian Job in the city’s sewers.
The stunt which is a homage to 1969 cult movie ‘The Italian Job’, which starred Michael Caine as Charlie Croker, who conceives a plan to steal millions of dollars in gold from Turin, making his get away in a Mini Cooper.
Top Gear were initially approached by Northern Ireland Water to see whether it would be interested in filming in the sewers, which are currently undergoing a multi million pound investment update. The scene which the team will be recreating will be the show’s first ever underground shoot.
Jason Barlow from Top Gear magazine said: “Basically what they want to try and do is emulate or recreate that famous scene in the Italian Job, which is just brilliant, where the Mini’s are escaping from the heist in Turin and they end up doing a loop-the-loop in the sewers.”
The stunt will be shot in the city over the next couple of weeks.
