50th Anniversary Celebrations for Walt Disney’s ‘Darby O Gill and the Little People’ are scheduled to take place in Dublin with an open air screening of the film on Wednesday 24th June, on Meeting House Square, Temple Bar at 10pm.
The night will commence at 8.30pm with entertainment for all. The film, which has for many years been a firm family favourite, featured performances from Albert Sharpe, Janet Munro, Sean Connery and Jimmy O'Dea.
Directed by Robert Stevenson, its screenplay was written by Lawrence Edward Watkin adapted from the books of Herminie Templeton Kavanagh. The film is a tale about a wily Irishman and his battle of wits with leprechauns.
Walt Disney himself and Sean Connery both attended the world premiere of the film in 1959 which took place in Dublin’s long lost Theatre Royal.
