Irish Short ‘‘Lowland Fell’ ’ Wins Seattle Festival Special Jury Prize
03 Jun 2009 :
Blinder Films' short film ‘Lowland Fell’ written by Michael Kinirons and Elaine Harrington, directed by Michael Kinirons (Treeclimber, Blood and Ink) and produced by Katie Holly (The Basket Case, Striapacha, One Hundred Mornings) has been awarded a Special Jury Prize at the prestigious Seattle International Film Festival.
According to the festival panel, the film was very well-received. This is the first major award for ‘Lowland Fell’ since its premiere at the 2008 Galway Film Fleadh.

Set against the mysterious, elemental landscape of a midlands bog, ‘Lowland Fell’ is a lush, erotically charged teenage drama that follows the exploits of three teenagers who uncover a bog body on a late summer’s day. The short stars Jane McGrath, Robert Sheehan, and Michael Winder.

Writer/Director Michael Kinirons studied English Literature in Trinity College and subsequently directing at the National Film and Television School, London. He is the award-winning writer and director of four shorts, his latest being ‘Lowland Fell’. He has also written a four part series ‘Fuil Agus Dúch/Blood and Ink' for TG4 and has two feature scripts currently in development, The Lake and Perkin Warbeck.

It was produced by Bl!nder Films, a film production company established by directors Kieron J. Walsh and Richie Smyth, and producer Katie Holly in 2006. Their ethos is on unique contemporary stories that will provoke, move and entertain. It is a recipient of the Irish Film Board’s Multiple Project Development scheme. They have worked with writer/director Owen O’Neill on short film ‘The Basket Case’ (winner of Best Irish Short at the Boston Irish Film Festival), and with writer/director Virginia Gilbert on the critically acclaimed three-part Irish language documentary ‘Striapacha: Three Hundred Years of Vice’. They are currently finishing post production on Irish Film Board Catalyst feature project 'One Hundred Mornings' (w/d Conor Horgan) and are shooting 'Sensation' (w/d Tom Hall) the first feature on their MPD slate, on location in Co. Wicklow.

‘Lowland Fell’ has a busy few months ahead as part of the official selection for the Edinburgh Film Festival and The Message to Man Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia.
