07 May 2009 :
Dearg Films are currently in production of a seven part series for TG4 with seven different presenters looking at the true stories behind some of the most iconic characters and moments from the Wild West.

The series will be made up of half hour programmes on Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy, the Gunfight at the Ok Corral, the Battle at the Alamo, Custer's Last Stand and Buffalo Bill. So far presenters confirmed include, musician Fiachna Ó Braonáin, actor Tomas O'Suilleabhain and presenters Tom Brannigan, Paidi O Lionaird and Dáithí Ó Sé.

Directed and produced by Brian Reddin, the production have already shot throughout Texas, Missouri, New Mexico and Arizona and interviewed experts, historians and family members as well as shooting extensive re-enactments of shoot outs and murders and battles.

The series is being shot by and Paul Holohan and it is due for broadcast on TG4 in September. TG4 are planning to schedule Westerns films around the programmes, so after the audience watch the documentary and discover the truth behind the legends, they can then watch the movie version and see how Hollywood has adapted the stories.

Dearg have previously produced the TG4 series ‘Daithi are Highway 61’ and ‘Drama Beo – Seomra a Se’.
