McSorley to Open Mid Ulster Fest

Omagh born actor Gerard McSorley (The Constant Gardner, Veronica Guerin) is returning to his home town to open the 6th Mid Ulster Film Festival, running from 1 – 3 May 2009.

This year’s festival is housed at a new venue - The Ulster History Park, Gortin Road, Omagh. The location has its own 100-seater cinema and a restaurant, which will be open from 9am-9pm over the festival weekend; Daly’s Bar will also be on site.

The Opening Night Gala will have a Latino theme and guests are being asked to dress up as their favourite movie character. The classic film ‘Cinema Paradiso’ will also screen.

Throughout the festival weekend, over 80 films will be screened in the Ulster History Park’s three studios as well as in Cinemobile. This year highlights include features such as; ‘Nobody’s Fool’, starring Paul Newman; the award-winning ‘Jean de Florette’; late night film ‘8.5 Hours’ by Irish director Brian Lally and a Saturday matinée ‘Cats and Dogs’. Documentaries such as ‘¿La Verdad?’ (The Truth?); ‘Tea on the Axis of Evil’ and ‘Alaska Far Away’ will all have their European Premieres at the festival.

Workshops include the Pitching Workshop with Barry Devlin, Digital Media with Barry Brown, Radio Broadcasting with Frank Galligan and Music Video with Stephen Mullan.
