'Helen', the feature by Irish film making team Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, has scooped two awards at the Festival Premiers Plans in Angers France. ‘Peacefire’ produced by MayFly Entertainment also picked up an award.
The Premier Plans Festival puts a spotlight on new European filmmakers with screenings of 100 first European films, presented in 5 competitive sections.
Produced by Desparate Optimists, ‘Helen’ is based on a 17 year old girl who becomes mixed up in her own life and a police reconstruction that she is hired for. The film scooped the Prix Du Jury Long Metrage and lead actress Annie Townsend won the Prix Mademoiselle Ladubay Long Metrage.
‘Peacefire’, directed by Macdara Vallely, won the Prix Spcial Du Jury. The film also picked up the Best First Feature at Galway Film Fleadh last year.
’Helen’ is due to released this year by Visit Films and New Wave Films in the UK and Ireland with a planned release on 17th April (subject to change) .
