As well as announcing this year’s Festival line up, the 18th Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival is currently selecting a jury panel of 10 to 18 year olds to judge short and feature films.
The panel will be required to watch all of the films that are being screened in competition during the Festival (13- 27 November) and to choose a number of winning entries. Jury members will have a great opportunity to meet industry professionals and to present the awards at Odeon Cinemas on 28 November.
The 20 ‘in competition’ feature films include ‘ A Quest for a Heart’, the Japanese animation ‘Komaneko’, the UK Preview of Spanish fantasy animation ‘Nocturna’, the Irish Preview of Norwegian family mystery ‘The 10 Lives of Titanic The Cat’, the UK Preview of Danish drama ‘Worlds Apart’, and the story of life as a 13 year old girl in the Irish drama ‘32A’ (19 Nov) directed by Marian Quinn.
Other films to screen include the animated preview of Magma Films’ ‘Niko & The Way To The Stars’, US drama ‘Half Nelson’, Oscar winning feature ‘The Lives of Others’, and the adventure-filled drama ‘The Fall’. Documentary fans can enjoy films such as ‘Heavy Load’ which follows a year in the life of a punk band, and ‘In The Shadow of The Moon’ in which the surviving crew members from NASA's Apollo missions tell their unique story.
Other screenings include ‘Charlotte’s Web’, ‘Happy Feet’, ’Cars’, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Fame’ and the Coen Brothers’ ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’.
Venues for the festival include Movie House Cinemas, Odeon and Queen's Film Theatre.
Special guests attending the young people’s film festival in Belfast include multi-awarding winning writer-director Mike Leigh OBE (Vera Drake, Happy-Go-Lucky), film critic, broadcaster and journalist Mark Kermode, highly acclaimed producer and BAFTA Chairman David Parfitt, director Annie Griffin (Book Group, Festival),and Cinemagic patron Dermot O’Leary (Big Brother’s Little Brother, X Factor).
In addition to the screenings there is a range of educational programmes - the Cinemagic ‘Talent Lab’ Masterclasses, Primary and Secondary School Education Programmes, the Cinemagic Young Filmmaker as well as the Cinemagic Jury.
