Due to receive its first public showing in Ireland as part of the 11th annual Horrorthon Film Festival, 'The Iguana With the Tongue of Fire' is a little-known murder mystery shot on location in Ireland in 1971 by the respected Italian film-maker, Riccardo Freda.
While by no means a "lost masterpiece", 'The Iguana With the Tongue of Fire' is nonetheless a genuine cinematic curiosity which should prove of great interest to horror fans and students of Irish film alike and stars Irish actors including Emmett Bergin (Alarm), Arthur O'Sullivan (Ryan's Daughter) and Niall Toibin (The Nephew) alongside an international cast.
Freda, who directed the first Italian horror film, 'I Vampiri', in 1956 and the first Italian science-fiction film, 'Caltiki, the Immortal Monster', three years later, also made the classic Gothic horror movie, 'The Horrible Dr. Hichcock', in 1962.
'The Iguana With the Tongue of Fire' stars Luigi Pistilli ('The Good, the Bad and the Ugly') as Insp. John Norton, a brutal cop on the trail of a killer, along with Dagmar Lassander ('A Hatchet for the Honeymoon') and Valentina Cortese ('Juliet of the Spirits').
'The Iguana With the Tongue of Fire' will be shown in the Irish Film Institute at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday 25 October.
Horrorthon runs from Thursday 23 to Monday 27 October.
