Northern Irish funded and shot ‘City of Ember’ starring Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) and IFTA winning actress Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) will go on release Friday 10 October with the European premiere of taking place tonight in Belfast’ s Movie House Cinema, hosted by Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People, Northern Ireland Screen and Entertainment Film Distributors.
'City of Ember’ was filmed on location in the Paint Hall in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. Funded by Northern Ireland Screen and Invest NI, the film is a Walden Media and Playtone co-production. The film is scripted by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), based on the best-selling novel by Jeanne Duprau and directed by Gil Kenan (Monsters House).
‘City of Ember’ is set in an insular, dark place where the only light comes from street lamps. The plot follows two teenagers who must unlock ancient mysteries about the city and save it from eternal darkness. Murray plays the larger than life mayor of Ember with Ronan playing one of the teenagers, Lina Mayfleet.
