Filming has wrapped on the feature ‘Eamon’, directed and written by Margaret Corkery, the first of three films that have been awarded budgets as part of the Catalyst project.
’Eamon’ was selected out of 45 applicants for the Catalyst project along with two other successful applicants ‘Redux’ by cinematographer/director PJ Dillon (Kings, 32A, Timbuktu) and ‘One Hundred Mornings’, written and to be directed by Conor Horgan. Launched in 2007, the aim of the Catalystproject is to support three new filmmaking teams to produce a new low budget feature film while providing them and their crew with individual mentoring from industry experts as they move towards production. The three teams have received a fund of €250,000 for each film.
‘Eamon' marks the debut feature by Margaret Corkery whose works include the shorts ‘Joyride’ and ‘Killing the Afternoon’ and is produced by Seamus Byrne of Zanita Films. Filming began on location in Brittasbay, Co. Wicklow, on 18August and finished yesterday 10th September. The film stars Darren Healy (Frankie), Amy Kirwin (The Roaring Twenties) and seven year old Robert Donnelly who plays the title character of Eamon. The action takes place when a dysfunctional family decides to go on holiday to escape their problems.
Crew members included DOP David Grennan (Demon) and production designer Paki Smith (32A). Post production will be carried out in Screenscene with post sound taking place in Ardmore Sound. The film is intended to be released theatrically in cinemas across Ireland and screened on TV3.
A spokesperson for the Irish Film Board said the other Catalyst projects are currently scheduled to begin production before the end of the year. Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, FÁS Screen Training Ireland, Filmbase, The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, TV3 and the Arts Council devised the scheme.
