Stranger than Fiction Line-Up Announced

The line up of Irish and international documentary features and shorts which will screen as part of the 7th Stranger than Fiction Festival at the IFI from 25 – 28 of September has been unveiled.

Irish titles in the line up include, ‘I see a Darkness’ from filmmaker Alan Gilsenan (The Hospice) which is the opening documentary for his new series about suicide in Ireland. Other highlights include a screening of ‘Gabriel Byrne – Stories from Home’ directed by Pat Collins (John McGahern: A Private World), which will be followed by an Irish Film & Television Academy Q&A with the IFTA winning director.

Wildfire Films’ documentary ‘About Beauty’ exploring the life of artist Dorothy Cross is also in the lineup, as well as Ciarin Scott's ‘Waiting for the Light' following Irish documentary filmmaker George Morrison and ‘Chippers’ by Nino Tropiano telling the story of Dublin's Italian chippers.

International films include the Bulgarian ‘Corridor#8’, directed by Boris Despodov and based on the ambitious rail and road system that was to link Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania; ‘Jesus Camp and The Order of Myths’, which explores dark side of American life; while cult rocker Patti Smith is the focus in Steven Sebring’s ‘Patti Smith: Dream of Life’.

Running in conjunction with the festival is the Pitch Perfect event giving directors and producers the chance to present their projects a panel of industry leaders. Panelists include Kevin Dawson Commissioning Editor Factual Programming RTÉ; Micheál Ó Meallaigh; TG4, Head of Programmes Department; Fintan Maguire TV3, Commissioning and Creative Services Executive; Andrew Herwitz, president of The Film Sales Company, New York; documentary expert Tue Steen Muller; Dana O’Keefe from Cinetic Media; Alan Maher, production executive with the Irish Film Board (IFB) and Nick Fraser, Editor of documentary platform ‘Storyville’.

The deadline for applications for Pitching Events is 8th of September.
