Irish actor Michael Fassbender (Hunger, 300) has been confirmed as the star of award-winning writer /director Andrea Arnold’s ‘Fish Tank’, alongside UK actors Harry Treadaway (Control, City of Ember), Kierston Wareing (It’s a Free World), Kate Jarvis and Rebecca Griffiths, currently filming on location in England.
The film, funded by the Limelight Fund, BBC Film and the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, is Arnold’s latest feature since ‘Red Road’, which scooped the Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival 2006.
‘Fish Tank’ tells the story of a volatile 15-year-old girl whose world is changed when her mother brings home a mysterious stranger.
Written by Arnold, ‘Fish Tank’ is produced by Kees Kasander for Kasander Films, with executive producing by Ruby Films’ Paul Trijbits and BBC Films’ Christine Langan and David M. Thompson.
“Andrea has proved herself to be one of the most exciting filmmakers to have come out of the UK for years,” said Lenny Crooks, head of the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund. “She received international acclaim for her first feature and her shorts work and we are delighted that we can help her to progress her career."
Fassbender will next be seen in Steve McQueen’s award-winning directorial debut ‘Hunger’, set for release in Irish cinemas on October 31st, 2008.
