Dublin-based post production company The Farm has completed the new RTÉ promo for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The concept, developed by RTÉ’s Promos department, is based on a Chinese art ink dot augmenting through a journey from Ireland to China. Official Olympic pictograms representing the different sports were incorporated to mimic the red stamps seen in traditional Chinese calligraphy.
The Farm delivered all aspects of the production and post-production, from storyboarding through to final animation and sound mix. The promo, produced and directed by Shay Mulvey, incorporates the use of a wide range of mixed media and tools – traditional elements were shot in rostrum to form the basis for the inks while fluid FX (real flow) and particles were used to shape the flow of the ink into various elements.
Softimage XSI was used to rotoscope, animate and model the various environments and movements with composting done in AfterFX. 3D artist on the promo was Brian O’Durnin, with sound mix by Caroline Gilmer.
The Farm is well known for its promos work with clients including RTÉ, BBC Gold and BBC America.
