New bi-lingual comedy drama ‘School Run’, the first television drama commissioned by TV3, has wrapped filming on location in Dublin this week.

Directed by Neasa Hardiman (Totally Frank, Fair City), footage for the 2 x 60 min comedy was shot from 9 – 27 June by IFTA winning DOP Peter Robertson (Song for a Raggy Boy, Garage).

Supported by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland Sound and Vision Fund, ‘School Run’ is the first television drama ever commissioned by TV3 and follows the events that unfold when a group of parents and their children attempt to raise funds for their crumbling Southside Gaelscoil.

Produced by Grand Pictures, the team behind ‘Spin the Bottle’ and ‘Paths to Freedom’, the screenplay is written by Irish novelist Anna McPartlin, whose books include ‘Pack up the Moon’ and ‘Apart from the Crowd’.

‘School Run’ features a host of actors including Katherine Igoe (The Bill, Casualty), Conor Mullen (Rough Diamond, Holby City), Barry McGovern (The Tudors, Ballykissangel), Peter Gaynor (Goldfish Memory, Rough Diamond), newcomer Isabelle Geraghty and Irish speakers Carrie Crowley (The Running Mate, Anner House), Lesley Conroy (The Running Mate, Eden) Macdara O’Fatharta (Ros na Run) and Norma Sheahan (Paddywhackery, Love is the Drug). ‘You’re a Star’ judge Linda Martin also makes a cameo appearance.

Production designer on the series is Jason Carlin, with editing being completed by Ray Roantree at Screen Scene.

“I am very excited that we are filming our first TV3 produced television drama, School Run,” said Fintan Maguire, TV3’s Commissioning Editor. ”It's a great script and cast and I have every faith that it will hit home with our audience and give them even more reasons to enjoy watching TV3. We have really expanded our home produced output, across lots of genres, with everything from hard hitting crime series like Dirty Money to the GAA Championship. Now we are pushing out in another new direction and I am delighted to be involved with our first ‘made for TV’ drama.”

“To be commissioned to produce TV3's first drama represents a huge opportunity for us and one which we hope will pay dividends for all involved,” said ‘School Run’ producer Paul Donovan from Grand Pictures. “School Run is a funny and moving script with a great cast of characters and storylines which should appeal to its target TV3 audience.”

‘School Run’ is set to air in autumn 2008 on TV3.
