RTÉ One and RTE Two are set to screen a host of Irish films this June, including IFTA-winners ‘Adam & Paul’, ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ and ‘Spin the Bottle’, as part of an Ireland On Screen film season, which will celebrate this country’s wealth of home grown talent and film culture.
The season, which runs over five weeks, will see 13 Irish films broadcast, eight of which are television premieres – ‘Goldfish Memory’, ‘Headrush’, ‘H3’, ‘Dead Long Enough’, ‘Dead Bodies’, ‘Trouble with Sex’, ‘Country’ and ‘Love and Rage’.
The films, all produced between 1997 and 2006, explore a diverse range of topics from relationships and love, to drug dealing and death. Paul Tickell’s ‘Crushproof’, screening on Saturday May 31st at 10.55 pm, follows the tale of sociopath Neal as he deals with life out of prison, while Anjelica Huston’s ‘Agnes Browne’ sees a recently widowed woman cope with life with her seven children after the premature death of her husband.
“This is an opportunity for RTÉ to showcase some of the best of Irish talent in recent years,” said Jane Gogan, Commissioning Editor for Drama. “Many of these film industry professionals be they costume designers, lighting experts, directors or camera people often go on to share their high standards of big screen knowledge with small screen television productions. Such was the case with RTÉ television dramas like Prosperity and Single- handed. The high levels of professionalism and imagination of the individuals involved is always apparent and brings an extra sparkle to the production.”
Broadcast dates and times will be published in the coming weeks.
