Generator Entertainment’s ‘Cherry Bomb’, directed by up and coming Northern Irish helmers Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros d’Sa, is set to begin a four week shoot on location in Belfast on 7th July 2008.

The film, written by IFTA-nominated screenwriter Daragh Carville (Middletown), follows the story of two best friends who are looking forward to a summer of fun when a troubled beauty makes them dangerously compete for her affections. Casting is currently underway on the coming-of-age drama, the second feature from UK based Generator Entertainment, run by producers Simon Bosanquet (Ripley’s Game) and Mark Huffam (Mickybo & Me).

This is the feature directorial debut of Leyburn and Barros d’Sa, whose short ‘The 18th Electricity Plan’ won second place at the Galway Film Fleadh, 2006.

‘Cherry Bomb’ is also produced by Michael Casey from Belfast’s Green Park Films. Dublin’s Screen Scene will take charge of post-production, with production design by David Craig and music composed by David Holmes. Co. Down based casting director Georgia Simpson is head of casting.

The film, with budget of £1-1.5 million, is funded by the Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland. The Little Film Company, base in California, is handling international sales.

Producer Mark Huffam commented to IFTN, “We are delighted to be working with Michael Casey, Brian Kirk and James Flynn on this fresh and exciting film. We’re very impressed with Daragh Carville’s Belfast-set script which gives a cool, contemporary twist to the buddy-movie tradition, it’s perfect material for Glen and Lisa’s fresh and original talents.”

Post-production is currently underway on Generator’s supernatural horror ‘Freak Dog’ (aka Red Mist), directed by Paddy Breathnach (Shrooms, Man About Dog). The £1.5 million budget film wrapped shooting on the 4th March on location in Northern Ireland. Post production is being carried out by Northern Ireland based Yellow Moon.

Three more films from Generator, ‘Chatawka Falls’, ‘Ghost Machine’ and thriller ‘Beach Boys’ are currently in pre-production and will shoot in Northern Ireland later this summer.
