Horror film ‘Spiderhole’, produced by Irishman Patrick O’Neill, has wrapped a 19 day shoot on location in Co. Kerry. The feature, written and directed by English helmer Daniel Simpson, will now shoot final footage on location in London.
‘Spiderhole’ is a horror based on a distorted version of the psychiatric disorder Munchausen’s Syndrome by proxy. The film follows four young art students in London who are evicted from their digs. They find an abandoned old house, move in and make it home, but all is not what it seems and they have stepped into the disturbed appetites of another's sick mind.
The film, which shot in Kerry from the 21st April – 10th May, stars Reuben Henry-Biggs (The Illusionist, Starter for 10), Emma Griffiths Malin (Animal, The Hole), George Maguire, Australian theatre actor Johnny Regan and Irish actress Moya Farley.
Producer Patrick O’Neill, from Ballyheigue, County Kerry, has previously produced fashion shows in London in the late 90's with an artist movement called 'United Aliens'.
“The film is set in London, but we shot all the interiors in Kerry,” he tells IFTN. “We received great support from The Kerry Film and Media Network. We are now shooting the exteriors in London to establish the setting. The budget so far is €75,000, but the quality of the footage is outstanding.”
The film is shot on a Red One Camera, by Canadian DOP Vinit Borrison (Stalker, Innocent), from Magnet Film and Digital, Toronto. “The Red Camera is a digital 4k camera with phenomenal quality,” says O’Neill. “You can get great results on a much smaller budget.”
The soundtrack for the feature is being composed by Jason Cooper, drummer with English rock band ‘The Cure’, and equipment for the shoot was provided by Dublin’s Cine Electric and Toronto-based company PS.
‘Spiderhole’ has applied for post-production funding from the Irish Film Board and editing will be completed in Ireland.
