Kelleher is Cannes Producer on the Move
16 Apr 2008 :
Macdara Kelleher
Fastnet Films’ Macdara Kelleher (Kisses, Tonight is Cancelled) has been chosen by the Irish Film Board to take part in the European Film Promotion’s ‘Producers on the Move’ at the Cannes International Film Festival, which takes place from 14th-25th May 2008.

Kelleher will join 21 innovative young European producers in Cannes to take part in the four day programme from 17th-20th May at the prestigious festival.

Members of the European Film Promotion (EFP) chose producers who have gained recognition in their home country, along with some who have made a mark on an international level.

‘Producers on the Move’ sees the chosen producers take part in a roundtable meeting, giving them the opportunity to speak with producers about the themes, planning and financing of current projects and discuss ideas for future works. A Co-Production Lunch also allows the participants to network with established producers from all over Europe.

“Particularly for young producers, it is extremely important that they can network with producers from other European countries and have an exchange of ideas on a high international level,” says Renate Rose, EFP managing director. “We will put the Producers on the Move in the spotlight over three days in the international daily trade newspapers in Cannes, and we know from our experience of the past years that they make use of this opportunity.“

Producers taking part in this year’s programme include Frenchman Marc-Antoine Robert of 2.4.7 Films, who produced the Oscar-nominated animation ‘Persepolis’, Sweden’s Fredrik Heinig from St Paul Film, who produced the award-winning feature ‘Darling’ and Laura Hastings-Smith from Wayward Films, producer of the Northern Ireland feature ‘Hunger’ and ‘The Lives of the Saints’.

‘Producers on the Move’ is supported financially by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, the EFP member organisations and sponsors.

The following producers were selected by the EFP member organisations:
Manuel Cristóbal from Perro Verde Films, selected by ICAA, Spain (Gritos en el Pasillo, The Living Forest)
Maria Drandaki from Bad Movies, selected by Greek Film Centre (Tale 52)
Silje Hopland Eik from Cinenord, selected by Norwegian Film Institute (Mars & Venus, Trigger)
