Tribeca All Access Selects Irish Screenplay
15 Apr 2008 :
A screenplay co-written by Irish screenwriter Terry McMahon (Fair City) and producer Bart Daly has been chosen to participate in the Tribeca Film Festival’s All Access program, which takes place from April 21st-26th at this year’s festival.

The untitled screenplay, which tells the story of injustice towards American Indians in the 1870’s, was one of 37 projects selected from an open call for submissions, which garnered over 550 entries.

“It is a great honour to be chosen to participate in the Tribeca All Access film program,” said Daly. “This story needs to be told because it addresses a very important time in American history, which is often forgotten about. The inclusion of our script at Tribeca is good timing for us as in January this year we raised half of the film budget and the momentum of Tribeca has already generated industry interest in America.”

Based on a true story, the script centres on Chief Standing Bear of the Ponca Nation, who is now recognised as one of the first civil rights leaders in America, and follows the events that unfold when a Ponca Indian chief is arrested in an attempt to return to his homeland to bury the bones of his murdered child.

The film is an Irish / American co-production between Bart Daly’s H & H Productions and Red-Horse Native Productions, a company with a history of collaborating with American Indian tribal nations to bring Native American stories to the screen.

The pic, which has the endorsement of the Ponca Nation, will be directed by Valerie Red-Horse of Red-Horse Native Productions.

Now in its fifth year, Tribeca All Access (TAA) is a program designed to foster relationships between film industry executives and filmmakers from traditionally underrepresented communities in the USA, and provides the participating directors and screenwriters with the opportunity to present their upcoming works in one-on-one meetings with more than 100 potential investors, development executives, producers and agents.
