Irish actor Ciarán Hinds (Rome, Munich, There Will Be Blood) and young Canadian actor Alexander Ludwig have been announced to join Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Disney’s re-make of the 1975 adventure pic ‘Escape to Witch Mountain’.
Hinds, who has won two IFTA awards for performances in ‘Rome’ and ‘The Mayor of Casterbridge’, is set to begin production on the feature later this month in Los Angeles. Directed by Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, She’s the Man), the action thriller has been spearheaded by Disney producer Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday).
Renamed, ‘Race to Witch Mountain’ the updated story follows a pair of magical twins who, with the help of a Las Vegas taxi driver (Johnson), go on the run from an unscrupulous group of men who wish to exploit their special powers. Ciarán Hinds will play the leader of the pack, played by Ray Milland in the 1975 original.
Alexander Ludwig and ‘Jumper’ actress AnnaSophia Robb will play the young siblings.
Ann Marie Sanderlin is executive producing for Gunn Films with Brigham Taylor and Casey Wolfe for Disney. The film is currently mooted for a 13 March 2009 release.
