Conor Ferguson's debut short ‘The Wednesdays’ picked up the Audience Award at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, which ran from 1st-9th February 2008.
‘The Wednesdays’, co-written by Ferguson and Luke Clancy, was produced by Anne-Marie Naughton of Park Films under a Galway Film Centre short film scheme.
The 13 minute short, which is also in the running for an IFTA award, tells the tale of an elderly couple who manage to re-kindle their love for each other, every Wednesday, with the help of some ecstasy tablets.
It stars IFTA winning actress Tina Kellegher (Showbands, Ballykissangel), Alan Devlin (Song for a Raggy Boy, Omagh) with Doreen Keogh (The Royle Family) and Des Keogh as the elderly couple.
Other Irish shorts screening in Clermont-Ferrand included ‘Useless Dog’ directed by Ken Wardrop which screened as part of the ‘In Dog We Trust’ segment.
