Best Actor BAFTA for Day Lewis

Irish resident Daniel Day-Lewis walked away with the Leading Actor Award for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘There Will Be Blood’ at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.

Hosted by Jonathan Ross, the ceremony took place on Sunday 10th February at the Royal Opera House in London.

French film ‘La Vie en Rose’ was the biggest winner of the night, with actress Marion Cotillard picking up the Leading Actress gong, in addition to awards for Make Up and Hair, Music and Costume Design. The film is also in line for an International Film IFTA at this month’s ceremony.

Best Film went to ‘Atonement’; Best British Film to ‘This Is England’ by Shane Meadows; Diablo Cody picked up the original screenplay award for ‘Juno’ while Best Director went to filmmaking brothers Joel and Ethan Coen.

Spain’s Javier Bardem won Supporting Actor for ‘No Country for Old Men’, while Brit actress Tilda Swinton received her first BAFTA award for her role in Tony Gilroy’s ‘Michael Clayton’.

Original Screenplay went to Diablo Cody for ‘Juno’, while Ronald Harwood, won the adapted screenplay prize for French pic ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’. The Foreign Language BAFTA went to ‘The Lives of Others’.

The Carl Foreman Award, which celebrates a first time British writer, director of producer, went to ‘Control’ writer Matt Greenhalgh.

Anthony Hopkins was honored with the BAFTA fellowship, while propmaster Barry Wilkinson received the Outstanding Contribution to British cinema accolade.
