Martin Duffy’s Irish-shot feature ‘The Summer of the Flying Saucer’ and Steph Green’s short ‘New Boy’ are set to screen at BUFF, The International Children and Young People’s Film Festival, which takes pace in Malmo, Sweden from the from 11th-15th March 2008.
Magma Films ‘The Summer of the Flying Saucer’, written by Marteinn Thorisson, was shot on location in Galway and stars Hugh O’Conor (Speed Dating, Botched), Lorcan Cranitch (The Bill, Rome), John Keogh (Killinaskully, Garage) and Robert Sheehan (An Creatur).
Set in the summer of 1967, the film follows 15 year old Dan Mullaney (Robbie Sheehan) who has his dull existence on a County Mayo farm turned topsy-turvy when aliens land in his back-yard. He must use all his guile to help them pass as humans while at the same time he falls for the alien girl.
Steph Green’s award-winning short ‘New Boy’ follows a nine year old African Boy’s first day at school in Ireland and will compete with shorts from countries including Germany, Holland, Canada, Sweden and the UK.
BUFF was founded in 1984 with the aim of screening good films for children and young people as well as adults. BUFF also arranges seminars and discussions for teachers, film-makers and cultural workers aiming to inspire the children and youth film.
