Irish interactive software and services provider Havok has picked up a Technology and Engineering Emmy award at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Monday, 7th January.
Havok, with headquarters at The Digital Hub, Dublin, received the award for their work on pioneering physics engines that aim to make films and games more realistic than ever before. The company uses a combination of next generation physics, animation and tools to reach new standards of realism and interactivity in gaming and movie technology and essentially turn their customers’ creative aspirations into technical realities.
Box office hits ‘The Matrix’, ‘Poseidon’, ‘Troy’, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ have used Havok technology, as well as bestselling games ‘Halo 3’, ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and ‘Guitar Hero III’.
Havok began as an incubation project in Trinity College, Dublin, in 1998 and in just nine years has become one of the top global providers of physics engines to the global entertainment industry.
The company has worked on movie projects with Special Effects houses George Lucas and The Moving Picture Company. Havok now works in partnership with big name game developers including Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and Pandemic Studios and their technology is available across all platforms including Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo WII. As well as being headquartered in Dublin, Havok also has offices in San Francisco, San Antonio, Calcutta, Munich and Tokyo.
The Emmy won by Havok was voted for by a panel of industry experts, which is made up of a variety of game publishers and developers.
