‘U2 3D’, a 3D presentation of U2’s global Vertigo tour, is set to open in Irish cinemas on February 22nd 2008.
Directed by Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies) and Irish director Catherine Owens, ‘U2 3D’ was filmed during the South American leg of the band’s Vertigo tour in 2005/2006, and captures the Irish band’s concert in Buenos Aires where they played to 80,000 fans.
Over 100 hours of 3D footage was shot on nine digital 3D camera systems, at seven different U2 shows. The play list includes U2 favourites such as ‘Pride’, ‘New Year’s Day’, ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’, ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ and ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’.
Produced by 3ality Digital and National Geographic, the 84 minute film marries advanced digital 3D imagery and 5.1 Surround Sound, with camerawork by Peter Anderson and Tom Kreuger. Editing by Olivier Wicki.
The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, which takes place from 17th -27th January 2008. ‘U2 3D’ opens in Cineworld, Movies at Dundrum, Movies at Swords and SGC, Dungarven, on February 22nd 2008.
