Boy A
John Crowley’s feature ‘Boy A’ , Steph Green’s short ‘New Boy’ and Darren Thornton's short 'Frankie' have joined the line-up for this year’s Berlinale International Film Festival, which takes place from 7th-17th February 2008.

’Boy A’, written by IFTA winner Mark O’Rowe (Intermission) and helmed by IFTA winning director John Crowley (Intermission, Celebration), will screen in the Panorama Special category.

Other films featured in the category include Madonna’s directorial debut ‘Filth and Wisdom’ (USA), Brad Anderson’s ‘Transsiberian’ (UK/Germany/Spain) and Laetitia Masson’s ‘Coupable’ (France).

The IFB and RTE funded short ‘New Boy’, produced by Tamara Anghie at Zanzibar Films, will screen in the Generation Kplus short film category of the fest.

The 11 minute short will compete with a host of international shorts including Ramin Bahrani’s ‘Chop Shop’ (USA), Cathy Randall’s ‘Hey Hey it’s Esther Blueburger’ (Australia) and Sandra Kogut’s ‘Mutum’ (Brazil), for the Crystal Bear Award.

‘New Boy’ recently scooped the Best Irish Short Film award at the Foyle Film Festival in Derry, and the Audience Award and a Special Mention at the Tirana Film Festival, Albania.

Darren Thornton’s award winning short ‘Frankie’, produced by Collette Farrell at Calipo Picture Co., will screen as part of the Berlinale Shorts programme. Funded by RTE and the IFB, Frankie won Best Irish Short at the Corona Cork Film Festival and Best Director for Darren Thornton at the Kerry Film Festival. As previously announced on IFTN, Marian Quinn's feature debut '32A' will screen in the Generation 14 Plus category at the festival.
